  1. Decay
  2. Discoloration

Steel does not require the same time or expense commitment for yearly maintenance. As a matter of fact, there is usually precious little maintenance required.

Environmental Concerns of Steel

STEEL IS THE MOST RECYCLED MATERIAL ON THE PLANET

Most of the steel we use today is recycled rather than forged from newly milled iron alloy.

Steel is an extremely green product because you are not going to have to blast the central heating in your homes as much as you might have to with other materials that are out there. Another reason why steel roofs are very energy efficient is because they are more reflective than other materials. As stated above, since they require less maintenance over time the durability of steel is well established for our customers. Book a meeting or an inspection today!

STEEL IS STURDY EVEN IN SEVERE WEATHER

Infamous for it’s hardy character in extreme weather, steel is engineered to hold up to frigid to heat wave all in the same day – meaning it’s perfect for Texas! Steel roofing surpasses local building codes.

Although our San Antonio area is rated a moderate risk for wildfires by the Texas A&M Forest Service, a steel roof will still resist windblown sparks from any direction – even fireworks from Fourth of July, New Year’s, Texas Independence Day, San Jacinto Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day – heck, we just love to celebrate in Texas. So your steel roof is a non-combustible material and carries the Class A Fire Resistance rating, which is the highest you can get.

Steel roofs can withstand winds of up to 120mph – that’s Category 3 hurricane force winds. Class 90 Wind Uplift rating is a wonderful amount of peace of mind as you watch that swirling circle on radar out in the gulf.

Snow is a rarity in San Antonio, but your peace of mind is that your steel roof allows snow and ice to slide right off.

Impact damage can be a concern with some metal roofs, but steel roofs hold a class 4 hail resistance rating. They resist puncture from falling branches, debris and hail, plus they won’t chip or crack.

Different Types of Steel Roofing

1. Weathering Steel – with an outer layer of steel engineered to purposefully oxidize, the exterior rust protects the inner layer of steel. The original use was in bridges.

2. Galvanized Steel - has a layer of Zinc outside preserving the inner layer of steel from corrosion. It is the most popular type of steel roof.

3. Galvalume Steel - uses a combination of Aluminum and Zinc, offering a more consistent look. Because of its Aluminum qualities, Galvalume is more susceptible to scratches while at the same time offers better exterior defense than Galvanized steel.

The technological leaps of steel roofing over the past 50 years allows it to mimic Copper, Zinc, and other roofing options through technologically advanced paint systems which are warranted for decades.
